Paris Holiday Precautions: Strike

If you are a seasoned traveler, then surely you know that traveling to a foreign country is not all fun and excitement. There can be times, which are extremely challenging and can test you both physically and mentally. Before you set out on your holiday trip, I always recommend that you make yourself aware of what exactly is going on in your destination country, so that you can be prepared for and plan how to deal with any disruptions or other unexpected events.

No where is this more applicable than in the fabulous country of France and specifically Paris. The French are known for their political activism and should you happen to be traveling to Paris this week, well then you ought to be aware that there will be massive strikes all across the country on Thursday, September 23, 2010, protesting the newly proposed law, which would raise the retirement age from 60 to 62.

Actually, one of my French friends was explaining to me that for the French the right to protest is something that they hold very dear and take very seriously. When the French strike and march for change, they are not only marching to change a law or make their political voice heard, they are also marching because it is something that is a part of their history and helps them to define who they are and what they hold dear. Based on how my French friend described it to me, I would equate that for the French to be able to protest and hold strikes all across the country is similar to American's right, desire, and need for free speech and to be able to say what they want, when they want.

In any case, please take the time to inform yourself about what is going on in your destination country before you actually set off on your journey. Otherwise you may certainly run into some unexpected situations, which may not be at all that pleasant. Until next time, have a fun and safe journey.
